Whenever I join in with a cover reveal, I somehow feel obliged to say that it’s not something I often do – but when Caroline James (one of my very favourite authors) got in touch to tell me about her forthcoming book, it was an immediate “yes please”! Atticus Arnott’s Great Adventure will be independently published on 16th September, as an ebook, in paperback and as an audiobook – and I think the cover (the camper van, the collie, the Spanish scenery, the colours…) is absolutely gorgeous.
Let’s take a closer look…
When seventy-year-old Atticus Arnott trades the rainy hills of Cumbria for the golden coast of Spain in his beloved vintage campervan, his quiet village is left reeling from the shock. With only his faithful collie, Ness, for company, Atticus sets off in search of sunshine, serenity, and perhaps a glass or two of sangria. But his solo adventure quickly turns into something far more unexpected…
Back in Ireland, Atticus’s daughter Mary is facing a crisis of her own. As her picture-perfect life starts to crumble, she must find the courage to put herself first for once and rediscover the dreams she set aside long ago.
As father and daughter navigate new paths, they learn that starting over isn’t about running from the past—but embracing the unknown with open arms…
Full of laughter, love and second chances, Atticus Arnott’s Great Adventure is a feel-good escape that proves it’s never too late for new beginnings – no matter where life might take you.
Doesn’t that look wonderful? Not a cruise book this time, but with her perfect emotional touch, the trademark laugh-out-loud moments and wonderful storytelling, I know I’m going to love it every bit as much. My advance copy will be coming with me on my forthcoming holiday, for a review when I return.
Let me share a few words from Caroline about how the book came about…
This book was born from a simple kitchen table conversation when my hubby asked, “How do you fancy spending our winters in Spain?” The idea of escaping Lancashire’s cold, damp days for a place with warm sunshine and a gentler climate was too tempting to resist. So, the adventure began, and our winter escape led us to a beautiful campsite on the Costa Blanca, a region famous for its golden beaches, lush pine forests, and a microclimate that feels like a warm hug.
As we settled in, I couldn’t help but be inspired by the fascinating people around me—of all nationalities, embracing their later years with energy, laughter, and a zest for life. And just like that, Atticus sprang to life in my imagination. This journey reaffirmed what I’ve always believed: it’s never too late to fall in love, start fresh, or welcome happiness with open arms. After all, happiness has no deadline—it often finds us when we open our hearts to it.
I hope this story brings warmth and joy to your precious reading hours. Thank you for letting my characters into your world. And as the years go by, like Atticus, remember Clara’s wise words: “Don’t let the old man in…”
I’m so looking forward to this one – and I’m sure there are so many of you who can’t wait to preorder your copy…
