#Feature: My reading plans for Christmas and New Year… #mustread #holidayreading

By | December 17, 2024

Just a quickie today! As I’ve now completed all my Christmas reads, I just thought you might like to know what I’ll be reading over Christmas and New Year.

Throughout the year, most of my reading is for blog tours – it’s something that works really well for me, keeping to a strict schedule, knowing when I need to write my review and post it, and I’ve discovered SO many of my favourite authors that way (and long may it continue!). But it also means that all those other books – the ones I download from Netgalley thinking “that’s one for me!”, the ones I buy because of other reviewers’ recommendations, and those I spot for myself – slowly sink into the depths of my kindle. So, inbetween all the outings and cooking/eating and films and series I’m looking forward to watching on telly, I’m going to give myself a little bit of a treat, and get round to some catching up.

And, of course, I very quickly drew up a list of 30+ that I really wanted to read – but I’m going to be realistic, and have slimmed it down a little. So, with next year’s blog tour commitments not kicking in until 14th January, these are the books – several rather different from my usual romance – that I’m hoping to read…

Beautiful People by Amanda Jennings

The Glassmaker by Tracy Chevalier

You Are Here by David Nicholls

Water by John Boyne

By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult

The House of Lost Secrets by Anstey Harris

Lucky Day by Beth Morrey

How to Age Disgracefully by Clare Pooley

What We Thought We Knew by Claire Dyer

You’ll notice an absence of thrillers (well, other than Amanda’s – I was dying to read that one!), and no crime – I was very tempted, but they tend to work rather better for me as audiobooks (and I haven’t forgotten that I said I’d do a round-up of everything I’ve listened to this year – after Christmas, I promise…).

I might not get to all the books on my list – and, as this is meant to be a bit of a break, I won’t be writing the full, long and detailed reviews I usually do (sorry!). But I will write a few lines about each of them, to post short reviews in all the important places – and I’ll let you know how I’ve got on in early January. And I will admit that things have started off exceptionally well – I’ve already read the first two, and entirely loved them!

Hey, tell me about the editing – I’ve just realised, while reading your post, that there’s one more book that should have been on my list, and I’ve already read and enjoyed (Elisabeth Gifford’s The Mischief Makers – wonderful!) xx
